Palaversquare
With this project, Theatre Muto wants to create after-talk moments after a (circus) performance. The idea is to bring the audience, who do not know each other, together around non-burning wooden fire pits immediately after the performance. We want to provide a cosy meeting place where the audience can informally share experiences and reflect on what they have just experienced!
Two 'enthousiasmeurs' or 'palaveraars' will guide the audience. They invite people after the performance, bringing them together in small groups for conversations. Their role is to initiate interactions and stimulate discussions without taking center stage themselves. They might offer popcorn or program booklets and subtly intervene if a conversation stalls. Firewood and markers are provided for jotting down thoughts and emotions. The facilitators, comprising an older artist aged 61 and a younger artist aged 26, ensure a diverse audience and a pleasant atmosphere.
Purpose
Often, the connection formed during a performance dissipates once the audience disperses. This project seeks to extend that spontaneous bond by providing a space for attendees to come together and share experiences. The aim isn't to critique the performance but to exchange imagination and emotions. For both the audience and the artists, it offers an opportunity to hear different perspectives and gain a deeper understanding of the show.

Setup
Space:
An area of approximately 8x8 meters with eight identical fire baskets, adjusted based on available space. The baskets are simple, without distracting decorations. An entrance made of pallets welcomes the audience. A wooden grandstand is centrally located at the back.
The square can be situated at the exit of the performance or at a strategically chosen location.
Conversations last about 30 minutes with 5-8 people per basket.
Materials:
Recycled wood, with only screws and wood glue as purchased items. Emphasis on upcycling and reuse.
The fire baskets are made from pallets, with some entirely covered in matchsticks. They feature a lid with an opening for a popcorn box and can hold a drink.
Ambiance:
String lights/flags and plants create a cozy atmosphere. Any music remains in the background to avoid disrupting conversations
